Adoption From Ukraine

Ukraine is a good option for parents who decide they are prepared to parent a child with special needs. In 2011, a presidential decree transferred the responsibilities of the previous Ukrainian adoption authority, the SDA, to the Ministry of Social Policy. While the transfer is taking place, the SDA will continue processing adoptions. In addition, the Ukrainian Family Code was updated, requiring orphans to be listed on the central adoption registry for one year and be at least five years old before they become eligible for intercountry adoption. Children with special needs are exempt from this amendment.
